Pia Larsen is a Sydney based artist whose work draws from an interest in people and place in relation to historical documentation, the corporeal, abstract forms and text, in two dimensions, high relief and installation environments.
Her practice utilises a range of media, including relief, digital, intaglio, drawing and collage, sometimes combined. Faces and bodies are reconfigured in expanded dots and blobs to where they oscillate between representation and abstraction. Scale is often manipulated, (reduction, enlargement and relative proportion), within and across work to generate new forms for reflecting on subject matter and concepts.
In 2018 she was selected to create new work for the show ‘From small things, big things grow’, for the ‘Gallery of small things’ and ‘Megalo Print Studio + Gallery’ in the ACT. She is now represented by GOST. She also exhibited work at Sydney Contemporary 2018 in Paper Contemporary, as part of the group Unlimited Sydney. In 2019 she will undertake an Artist Residency at Megalo Print Studio + Gallery and stage an installation and drawing work for a solo show at Factory49.
